Formed in Paris in December, 1954, this society of professional journalists is known worldwide by its acronym FIJET (pronounced FEE-jet). It acknowledges three official languages and is known in English as World Federation of Journalists and Travel Writers and in Spanish as Federacion Mundial de Periodistas y Escritores de Turismo.
Its membership totals more than 1000 members in 30 countries on five continents. Twenty-one countries operate with National Associations in the Federation and 10 or more countries with limited membership are represented by "individual members" in those countries.
