Panos Aravantinos Museum

  The Museum belongs to the Municipality of Piraeus and is housed in the building of the Municipal Theater with entrance from Ag. Konstantinou Str. The Museum is interesting not only for a specialist but also for an art loving visitor.
  In the three halls of the Museum there are about 600 pieces of Aravantinos’ creations, paintings, small three-dimensional theatrical scenes, miniatures of sceneries and also portraits. On the walls of the four-storey staircase there are designs of costumes and posters from performances he had participated in.
  Panos Aravantinos was born in Kerkyra in 1886. At a very young age he came to Athens where he studied Fine Arts at the Polytechnic University. From 1907 to 1910, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin and before his return to Greece he won golden awards, from the Academies of Munich and Berlin. Within 10 years he directed more than 100 plays, operas and ballets.
  Alfred Einstein wrote: I have often seen the play "Silent Woman" in the opera of Berlin not for Richard Strauss’ music but for P. Aravantinos scenic pictures.
