Astypalaea (Astupalaia), a daughter of Phoenix and Perimede, the daughter of Oeneus. She was a sister of Europa, and became by Poseidon the mother of the Argonaut Ancaeus and of Eurypylus, king of the island of Cos. The island Astypalaea among the Cyclades derived its name from her. The island was inhabited first by the Carians, later by Minoans Ov. Met. 7.456 62, and then, during the historical period, by Megarians and Dorians from the Argolis.
