Arhus County

ARHUS (County) DENMARK
The County of Arhus is Denmark’s largest county in terms of population with more than 630,000 inhabitants. The main city, Arhus, is the second largest in Denmark with nearly 300,000 inhabitants. Other major towns are Randers, Silkeborg, Grenaa and Skanderborg. There are 26 municipalities in the county and the nature varies from the long coastline in the east, north and south with fjords and bays to woodland and beautiful areas with lakes in the west.

Bornholm County

BORNHOLM (County) DENMARK
The island of Bornholm, Denmark’s smallest county, is situated in the southern part of the Baltic Sea. Bornholm covers an area of 588 sq km and has 45,000 inhabitants. One of Bornholm’s characteristics is its unique landscape. Within the island’s geographical area of 20 x 30 km you find steep rocky slopes, large forests with waterfalls, and long white sandy beaches. A particularly mild climate provides a fauna, which differs considerably from the rest of the country, with Mediterranean tinges such as wild fig trees and mulberry trees. Copenhagen County

COPENHAGEN (County) DENMARK
Copenhagen County has a population of 610,000 people, about 12 percent of the total population in Denmark. Copenhagen County is the second-largest county in Denmark. The county surrounds the two metropolitan municipalities, Copenhagen and Frederiksberg. The two cities are not included in the county. Number of municipalities: 18

Frederiksborg County

FREDERIKSBORG (County) DENMARK
The County of Frederiksborg covers 1,347 sq km, and is, with 363.098 inhabitants, the fifth largest county in Denmark. The county encompasses 19 municipalities and is surrounded by the blue sea - a green county in the middle of the Oresund Region. Major cities are Ellsinore, Hillerod and Frederikssund. In the northeastern corner the charming Ellsinore with the impressive “Hamlet Castle”, Kronborg. Hillerod - with the magnificent renaissance castle of Frederiksborg - is the heart of North Zealand and the hometown of the county hall. In the western part you find the fjord side town Frederikssund - famous for its annual viking plays.

Funen County

FYN (County) DENMARK
The County of Funen unites the area in the middle of Denmark and is called the green heart of Denmark. Funen connects Denmark with bridges to both Zealand and Jutland and thus composes a natural centre. Funen has 32 municipalities with Odense as the central and largest of them. Other main cities are Svendborg, Faborg, Middelfart and Nyborg.

North Jutland County

NORDJYLAND (County) DENMARK
The County of North Jutland is the northernmost county in Denmark, situated at the top of the country and the European continent. As regards area, North Jutland is the largest of the 14 Danish counties, and 500,000 people live here in 27 municipalities.

Ribe County

RIBE (County) DENMARK
The County of Ribe is the westernmost county in Denmark. A county where the sea continues to leave its mark on the landscape. The sea plays an important role in providing a playground for tourists, a source of income for the fishing industry and a highway to the rest of the world for both international freight routes and passenger services. In Ribe County there are 14 municipalities and around 220,000 inhabitants.

Ringkjobing County

RINGKOEBING (County) DENMARK
The County of Ringkjobing is situated in West Jutland, bordering the North Sea. The county is known particularly for its scenic landscape, its many kilometres of sandy beaches along the west coast, its attractive moor landscape with abundant heather, and its fjords with their varied bird life. The county offers broad horizons and open skies and a sometimes harsh climate. Number of municipalities:18

Roskilde County

ROSKILDE (County) DENMARK
Roskilde County forms an integrated part of the Metropolitan Area of Copenhagen and the rest of Zealand. Roskilde County has many historical attractions: Roskilde Cathedral, the Historic-Cultural Research Centre of Lejre, the Viking Ship Museum, the Koge Sketch Collection, and many beautiful old castles and gardens. The population of Roskilde County is younger than in the rest of Denmark seen on the average. Number of municipalities: 11

South Jutland County

SOUTH JUTLAND (County) DENMARK
The County of South Jutland is quite special. It is the only one of the 14 Danish counties that has a national land border. The neighbourhood to Germany has put its distinct mark on the turbulent history of this region - right from the Viking age to our days. In earlier times, this region was the scene of numerous quarrels, conflicts and even bloody wars. The present border was determined by plebiscite held in 1920 and although the border left national minorities on either side, peaceful coexistence and a progressive border-crossing co-operation have now replaced the tensions of earlier times. Today, between 15,000 and 20,000 German-minded citizens live in South Jutland and there are 40,000-50,000 Danish-minded people south of the border.

Storstrom County

STORSTROEM (County) DENMARK
Abundance of natural wealth such as the magnificent 1000 km coastline with beautiful beaches, the extensive plains of fertile farmland, the breathtaking white cliffs of Mon, the varied archipelago of large and small islands are just some of the topographical features characterising Storstrom County. History also contributed amply to making Storstrom County a very special place as the vast number of cultural and historical sites such as the medieval ‘Goose Tower’ of Vordingborg tell a tale of the past which placed Storstrom County in the mainstream of events since time immemorial. Vejle County

VEJLE (County) DENMARK
The County of Vejle is located in the heart of Jutland - geographically, culturally and commercially. 340,000 inhabitants living in an area of 3,000 square kilometres makes the County of Vejle one of the most densely populated regions outside the Copenhagen area. The County of Vejle covers 16 municipalities. Two-thirds of the population lives in the four major cities of the county, namely Horsens, Vejle, Fredericia and Kolding.

West Zealand County

VESTJAELAND (County) DENMARK
The County of West Zealand is situated about 60 km west of Copenhagen. The region is served by an extensive and smoothly functioning infrastructure. Modern road and rail networks ensure that business has a wide scope regarding transport within the region and to the rest of Denmark, as well as further afield to Europe, underscored by the inauguration, in mid 1998, of the Great Belt bridge and tunnel, which connect Zealand to the island Funen. Number of municipalities : 23

Viborg County

VIBORG (County) DENMARK
The County of Viborg is situated in the northwestern part of Jutland and consists of 17 municipalities. Viborg County is the fourth largest county in Denmark with a population of approximately 230,000 covering an area of 4,213 square kilometres. Viborg County is intersected by the Limfjord, Denmark's largest inland waterway and has a coastline of 646 km which offers plenty recreational as well as port facilities. The scenery is beautiful and varied. To the west a coastline dominated by white sandy beaches and the rough North Sea and to the south the heather-covered hills and small lakes and streams.
