DRAMA (Town) MAKEDONIA EAST & THRACE
He was born in Drama. After long musical studies, he obtained his
degree in Byzantine and European Music, in the Hellenic Conservatory of Athens,
in the class of Emmanuel Hadjimarkos. He was artistic director of the “Karipeion
Melathron” Foundation.
His first CD was “Dilemma”-music and lyrics by Stamatis
Spanoudakis. Later on, he collaborated with many well-known songwriters like Yannis
Spanos, Christos Nikolopoulos, Arleta, Dionyssis Tsaknis, Lavrentis Machairitsas,
Pantelis Thalassinos, and lyricists like Lina Nikolakopoulou, Manos Eleftheriou,
etc. He appeared in concert with Eleftheria Arvanitaki, Charis Alexiou, Giorgos
Dalaras, Yannis Markopoulos, Grigoris Bithikotsis, Yannis Poulopoulos and Mikis
Theodorakis.
In Easter 1997, he released a CD entitled “Ninth Hour”,
with hymns of the Holy Week. This album was the starting point of a new career,
and the first of a series of CDs with Byzantine hymns. Follows the album “The
Holy Passion”, live recording of the concert he gave in Easter 1996 in the
Athens Cathedral, with hymns
of the Holy Week. The album also includes the exquisite Hymn of Love of the Apostle
Paul. Later on, he releases “Light from the Light” with hymns of Christmas,
New Year's day and the Epiphany, and a triple CD entitled “I shall praise
my Lord, as long as I exist”.
In October 1997 he releases his new CD entitled “Free Seas”.
In March 1998 comes the album “Air, Love and Black-Saltiness in the White
Sea”. It is his first recording of highlights of our traditional music,
from Asia Minor, Constantinople,
the Aegean Sea, the sea of
Pontos. In 1999, in his effort
to assist the Union of people suffering from thalassemia, in Thessaloniki,
he helps in the release of the CD entitled “The Sea and the Song”.
In 2000 he releases a second CD with traditional songs from Macedonia entitled
“Like the cool waters”.
He has given hundreds of successful concerts in Greece,
the USA, Canada,
Australia, Israel,
Europe and Cyprus; the public
watches his approach to Byzantine Music, sometimes devoutly, sometimes with enthusiastic
reactions.
We must mention that his successful, creative relationship with Byzantine
Music is an important factor for the development of his career. Having Constantinople
as a starting point, he commenced an exceptional tour in churches, where the public,
with great emotion, watches him perform in his own special way hymns that have
remained inalterable through the ages.
