The Centre for Historical Studies of the Catholic Diocese of Syros (K.I.M.K.E.S.)
was founded in 1986 and is located at Ano Syros, next to the Cathedral of St. George.
It includes the historical and ecclesiastical archives of the Catholic Dioceses of Syros and Thera,
as well as the archives of the Municipality of Ano Syros. Through the preservation and study of
the historical literary sources, one of the primary aims of the institution is to illuminate and promote
the history of Syros and the Cyclades in general.
DELOS (Island) KYKLADES
Its collections of sculpture and relief representations are the finest
in the world. This museum was built in 1904 with expenses paid by the Archaeological
Society. The five western wings of the first building were supplemented with additional
wings in 1931 and 1972.
Currently the museum of Delos hosts the following collections:
•Vases from mid-3rd c. B.C. to the 1st millennium B.C.
•Statuettes (2nd - 1st c. B.C.)
•Tomb statues and columns (7th c. - 1st c. B.C.)
•Jewellery and various articles dating from the 2nd to 1st c. B.C.
•Mosaics from the 2nd and 1st c. B.C.
Significant exhibits of the Museum of Delos are:
•Corinthian alabaster
•Brass mask of bearded Dionysus (2nd c. B.C.)
•Statue of Apollo (2nd c. B.C.)
•Archaic Kore (young woman) (580 B.C.)
•Marble complex of Voreas abducting Oreithyia (end of 5th c. B.C.)
•Marble Statue of Dioscurides and his wife Cleopatra (138 A.D.)

FIRA (Small town) SANTORINI
The new building (from 1960) replaced an older one that was devastated
by an earthquake in 1956. Currently, a new Museum is in progress on the isle of
Thera. The collections housed in the new building are inscriptions, sculpture,
earthenware and clay statuettes from the Geometric to the Hellenistic period.
Some of the most important finds exhibited are:
•The upper torso of an archaic Kouros
•Attic black-figure amphora
•Attic black-figure kylix
•Large volcano boulder
•Clay Daedalic figurine (the lamenter)

MARPISSA (Village) PAROS
In Marpissa, one can admire Byzantine art in one part of the museum. The other part houses the sculptures of Nikos Perantino, a native of Marpissa. He bequeathed 192 of his works to the community. Every summer, an exhibition of paintings is organised in his honour.
A folk art museum will shortly open in the centre of the village.
The hill of Agios Antonios (alt. 200m) rises to the east of Marpissa with, on its summit, the monastery and the picturesque church of that name. A little lower down are the remains of a Venetian castle. The view from the 16th century monastery is spectacular. We suggest you climb the hill and surrender yourself to the magic of the surroundings.
NAXOS (Town) KYKLADES
Since 1973 this museum has been housed in the Venetian building of
the Freridon School where the renowned Greek author Nikos Kazantzakis was educated
as a young man. The museum hosts works of art as well as everyday items (5300
B.C. - 5th c. A.D.) that were brought to light during systematic excavations conducted
on the island from end of the Second World War to date. Among other exhibits visitors
can find collections of marble statuettes from the Early Cycladic period (3200-2300
B.C.), vases of the Mycenaean and Geometric period, as well as pottery and glass
vases of the Roman period.

TINOS (Small town) KYKLADES
Situated on Leoforos Megaloharis, this museum opened in 1963. It contains a rich collection of vases and objects for general use from different periods, as well as steles from the 5th century B.C., found in Exombourgo and Kampo. The first geometrical and pre-geometrical tools (10-8th century B.C.) from Exombourgo, Ktikado and Kardiani are also exhibited. In the courtyard, one can admire friezes from the altar of Poseidon and Amfitriti and beautiful mosaics found in the temple of Panagia. The museum houses a rich collection of coins from Tinos, but only a few are on exhibit.
