KANTOUNI (Settlement) KALYMNOS
Lovely long stretch of sandy beach, sometimes with big, rolling surf. The sea is shallow for some distance offshore so it's good for children - and the beach is lined by a few bars, tavernas, shops and rooms. Look for the monastery perched up on the rocks and stroll along narrow lanes between orange and olive groves behind the beach. (Steps and climbing can be avoided here!) No wonder this area is known as Elies, meaning olives. It also includes tamarisk-lined Linaria beach with its waterside fish tavernas.
