KANDANOS (Village) CHANIA
At the festival one can watch the distillation of raki. In large cauldrons the raki grapes are boiled in water. The steam from the boil goes through a pipe in the water, is chilled and raki is produced. At the festival there is live Cretan music, lots of free raki, wine and traditional products. Visitors must pay the entrance fee.
The cheese pie festival goes on every year in Candanos. Visitors must pay only the entrance fee and are able to taste authentic Cretan products and recipes. Free cheese pies, "wedding" sweets, wine, raki, boiled meat, rice and other tasty foods are offered.The festival is accompanied by live music from some traditional Cretan band.
