  Epanosifi Monastery is 32km south of Iraklion on the Iraklion - Knossos - Kounavi - Houdetsi - Epanosifi Monastery road. It is believed that it was built in the sixteenth century. It was an important intellectual centre during the Turkish occupation and was destroyed by them. Today it is a pleasant, prosperous-looking place.
