MONI VATOPEDIOU (Monastery) AGION OROS
Abbot of Vatopediou
Monastery on Mount Athos around 1360, he is mentioned in written sources after
1381 as the metropolitan of Peritheorion. He knew personally the monk/saint Maximos
Kafsokalyvis, who was celebrated for his gift of prophecy and had counselled many
patriarchs and emperors. Theophanes, whom Kafsokalyvis had predicted would become
metropolitan of Morachrides in Thrace, co-authored one of the four lives of the
saint which includes one of his apologias against the Latins.
