Hierax, a musician of the Mythic period, before the Trojan war. He is said to have invented the Hieracian measure, nomos hierakios, and to have been the friend and disciple of Olympus the musician. He died young. (Pollax, iv. 10)
Crates (Krates), a very ancient Greek musician, the disciple of Olympus, to whom some ascribed the composition for the flute, which was called nomos Polukephalos, and which was more usually attributed to Olympus himself. (Plut. de Mus. 7) Nothing further is known of him.
