Phoenecian philosopher. A disciple of Plotinus, Porphyry defended the neo-platonic philosophy in On Images and several commentaries on the logic of Aristotle, including an influential exposition of the Categories .

Dius, (Dios), the author of a history of the Phoenicians, of which a fragment concerning Solomon and Hiram is preserved in Josephus. (c. Apion. i. 17.) There was also a Pythagorean philosopher Dius, who wrote a work peri kallones, of which two fragments are preserved in Stobaeus. (Tit. lxv. 16, 17.)
Hypsicrates, (Hupsikrates). An historical writer, who wrote an account of Phoenicia in the Phoenician language, which was translated into Greek by a man named Asitos, or Laitos. (Tatian. Orat. ad Gent. 58; Euseb. Praep. Evang. x. p. 289.)
