Peneleos (Peneleus)

He was the son of Ippalcmus and Asterope, who became the leader of the Thebans after the death of Thesander, because the son of the latter, Tisamenus, was a minor age. He took part in the Trojan War and was slain by Eurypylus, the son of Telephus (Il. 2.493, 17.597).

Leitus

Leitus. He was the son of Alectryon, an argonaut and leader of the Boeotians in the Trojan War, who killed Phylactus and was wounded by Hector (Il. 2.494, 6.35, 13.90, 17.601).

Leitus (Leitos), a son of Alector or Alectryon, by Cleobule, and father of Peneleus. (Apollod. iii. 10.8; Diod. iv. 67). He is mentioned among the Argonauts (Apollod. i. 9.16), and commanded the Boeotians in the war against Troy (Hom. Il. ii. 494, xvii. 602; Paus. ix. 4. 3), from whence he took with him the remains of Arcesilaus. (Paus. ix. 39.3). His tomb was shown in later times at Plataeae (Paus. ix. 4.3; comp. Hygin. Fab. 97).

Prothoenor

He was the son of Areilycus and leader of the Boeotians in the Trojan War (Il. 2.495, 14.450, 14,472).

Arne participated in the Trojan War and is listed in the Homeric Catalogue of Ships. He calls it "polystaphylon" (= "rich in vines"). (Il. 2.507, 7.9).

The town participated in the Trojan War and is listed in the Homeric Catalogue of Ships (Il. 2.508). Strabo and others identify it with Nisa.

The Boeotians participated in the Trojan War with 50 ships and 120 young men on each one under the leadership of Peneleos, Leitus, Arcesilaus, Prothoenor and Clonius. Homer calls their land "exceeding rich" (Il. 5.710). The Boeotian cities, that participated in the Trojan War are: Lower Thebe, Schoenus, Scolus, Glisas, Hyria, Aulis, Eteonus, Thespeia, Graea, Mycalessus, Eilesium, Harma, Eleon, Erythrae, Hyle, Plataea, Medeon, Peteon, Coroneia, Ocalea, Copae, Eutresis, Thisbe, Haliartus, Onchestus, Arne, Mideia, Nisa, Anthedon (Il. 2.494-510).

Hyle participated in the Trojan War and is listed in the Homeric Catalogue of Ships. It was said that the best shields were constructed there (Il. 2.500, 5.707-709).

Alector. The father of Leitus, the Argonaut. (Apollod. i. 9. § 16.) Homer (Il. xvii. 602) calls him Alectryon.

Areithous the Corynetes & Phylomedusa

ARNI (Ancient city) VIOTIA
Areithous, surnamed Corynetes, was the husband of Phylomedusa and father of Menesthius, king of Arne (Il. 7.10). He was slain by Lycurgus, king of Tegea (Il. 7.134, also see Paus. 8,4,10).

Areithous (Areithoos), king of Arne in Boeotia, and husband of Philomedusa, is called in the Iliad (vii. 8, &c.) korunetes, because he fought with no other weapon but a club. He fell by the hand of the Arcadian Lycurgus, who drove him into a narrow defile, where he could not make use of his club. Erythalion, the friend of Lycurgus, wore the armour of Areithous in the Trojan war. (Hom. Il. vii. 138, &c.) The tomb of Areithous was shewn in Arcadia as late as the time of Pausanias (viii. 11.3). There is another mythical personage of this name in the Iliad (xx. 487).

Menesthius

He was the son of king Areithous and was slain by Paris (Il. 7.9).
