PINIOS (River) THESSALIA
(Peneios). Now the Salambria; the principal river in Thessaly, rising in Mount Lacmon; after receiving the waters of the Enipeus, Lethaeus, and Titaresius rivers, it passes through the Vale of Tempe between Mounts Ossa and Olympus, and empties into the sea. The rivergod Peneus was the son of Oceanus and Tethys. By the Naiad Creusa he became the father of Hypseus, Stilbe, and Daphne. He was also the father (by some called the husband) of Cyrene.
