Oracle of Aphrodite

An oracle of Aphrodite existed at Paphos in Cyprus, and was consulted by Titus (Tac. Hist. ii. 3, 4).

Sanctuary of Aphrodite

After the capture of Troy the storm that overtook the Greeks on their return home carried Agapenor and the Arcadian fleet to Cyprus, and so Agapenor became the founder of Paphos, and built the sanctuary of Aphrodite at Palaepaphos (Old Paphos).

Temple of Aphrodite Acraea

The mountain peak is called Olympus; and it has a temple of Aphrodite Acraea, which cannot be entered or seen by women (Strab. 14,6,3).
