The Municipality of Methana was founded by Law 2539/1997 (Kapodistria Plan), consists of 4 Municipal Districts, the former municipality of
1. Loutropolis of Methana
and the former communities of:
1. Kounoupitsa,
2. Kypseli Methanon,
3. Megalochorion.
Municipality seat is Methana, small town of Loutropolis of Methana municipal district. The first authorities were elected in October 1998. The population was 2056 inhabitants, according to the 1991 census.
