PLATANIAS (Municipality) CHANIA
The Municipality of Platania was founded by Law 2539/1997 (Kapodistria Plan), consists of 13 Municipal Districts, the former communities of:
1. Vlacheronitissa,
2. Vrysses,
3. Geranion,
4. Zounakion,
5. Kodamarion,
6. Kyparissos,
7. Maleme,
8. Maniolopoulon,
9. Modion,
10. Deres,
11. Xamoudochorion,
12. Platanias,
13. Sirilion.
Municipality seat is Geranion, village of the homonymous municipal district. The first authorities were elected in October 1998. The population was 5044 inhabitants, according to the 1991 census.
