Municipality of Gortyna

The Municipality of Gortyna was founded by Law 2539/1997 (Kapodistria Plan), consists of 13 Municipal Districts, the former communities of:
1. Agii Deka,
2. Agios Kyrilos,
3. Ambelouzos,
4. Apesokarion,
5. Vagonia,
6. Vasiliki,
7. Vasilika Anogia,
8. Gagales,
9. Mitropolis,
10. Miamou,
11. Platanos,
12. Plora,
13. Choustouliana.
Municipality seat is Agii Deka, village of the homonymous municipal district. The first authorities were elected in October 1998. The population was 5837 inhabitants, according to the 1991 census.
