The Municipality of Igoumenitsa was founded by Law 2539/1997 (Kapodistria Plan), consists of 9 Municipal Districts, the former municipality of
1. Igoumenitsa
and the former communities of:
1. Agia Marina,
2. Agios Vlassios,
3. Grekochorion,
4. Kastrion,
5. Kryovryssi,
6. Ladochorion,
7. Mavroudion,
8. Nea Selefkia.
Municipality seat is Igoumenitsa, city of the homonymous municipal district. The first authorities were elected in October 1998. The population was 11608 inhabitants, according to the 1991 census.
