The Municipality of Proussos was founded by Law 2539/1997 (Kapodistria Plan), consists of 11 Municipal Districts, the former communities of:
1. Alestia,
2. Aspropyrgos,
3. Velota,
4. Esochoria,
5. Kastanea,
6. Katavothra,
7. Prodromos,
8. Proussos,
9. Sarkini,
10. Stavrochorion,
11. Tornos.
Municipality seat is Proussos, village of the homonymous municipal district. The first authorities were elected in October 1998. The population was 1574 inhabitants, according to the 1991 census
