The Municipality of Megalopoli was founded by Law 2539/1997 (Kapodistria Plan), consists of 31 Municipal Districts, the former municipality of 1. Megalopoli and the former communities of: 1. Anthochorion, 2. Ano Karyes, 3. Vangos, 4. Vastas, 5. Gefyra, 6. Thoknia, 7. Issaris, 8. Issoma Karyon, 9. Karatoulas, 10. Kastanochorion, 11. Kato Karyes, (Karyes) 12. Lykeon, 13. Lykossoura, 14. Lykochia, 15. Makrysion, 16. Malota, 17. Marathousa, 18. Nea Eklisoula, 19. Neochorion Lykossouras, 20. Paradissia, 21. Perivolia, 22. Plaka, 23. Rapsomatis, 24. Soulion, 25. Soulos, 26. Trilofon, 27. Tripotamon, 28. Chirades, 29. Chrani, 30. Choremis. Municipality seat is Megalopoli, city of the homonymous municipal district. The first authorities were elected in October 1998. The population was 8888 inhabitants, according to the 1991 census.
