KALAMATA (Municipality) MESSINIA
The Municipality of Kalamata was founded by Law 2539/1997 (Kapodistria Plan), consists of 14 Municipal Districts, the former municipality of:
1.Kalamata
and the former communities of:
1. Alagonia,
2. Antikalamos,
3. Artemissia,
4. Asprochoma,
5. Verga,
6. Eleochorion,
7. Karvelion,
8. Ladas,
9. Leika,
10. Mikra Mantinia,
11. Nedoussa,
12. Piges,
13. Sperchogia.
Municipality seat is Kalamata, city of the homonymous municipal district. The first authorities were elected in October 1998. The population was 50693 inhabitants, according to the 1991 census.
