The Municipality of Didymotichon was founded by Law 2539/1997 (Kapodistria Plan), consists of 15 Municipal Districts, the former municipality of
1. Didimoticho,
the former communities of:
1. Asvestades,
2. Assimenion,
3. Ellinochorion,
4. Issaakion,
5. Karoti,
6. Koufovounon,
7. Kyani,
8. Mani,
9. Petrades,
10. Pimenikon,
11. Prangion,
12. Pythion,
13. Sitochorion
and the settlement of:
1. Sofikon of the former community of Thourion.
Municipality seat is Didymoticho, city of the homonymous municipal district. The first authorities were elected in October 1998. The population was 19540 inhabitants, according to the 1991 census.
