Brackish, coastby shallow (30-40 cm) lagoon, which is surrounded by reeds at the side of land, while at the seaside it is surrounded by an oblong sandy isle, in the center of which there is an orifice of communication with the sea. Kotychi covers an expanse of nearly 800 hectares and it is the largest lagoon of Peloponnese. It is characterized by a big variety of flora, while it iis of great ecological interest, because it is the southwest lagoon in the western corridor of migration, for many birds. Every winter 5 to 10 thousand wild ducks of many species gather there to spend the winter. The winter ornithological picture is completed with hundreds of other aquatic birds plus many beautiful swans. During the spring and the autumn migration period, Kotychi turns into a small paradise. Lots of aquatic birds find the suitable conditions to rest and to find food in the shallow water.
