In the mid-14th century, due to constant pirates attacks and the ineffective of Bourtzi fortress in protecting the population, the inhabitants were forced to leave the ancient town of Skiathos. They moved their capital to Kastro cape, which is located on a high rock, overlooking a steep cliff above the sea at the northernmost part of the island. Today, there are some ruins of the medieval fortress and under the cape a wild beauty beach.
