The Hellenic Association consists of approximately 100 members of both Greek and non-Greek descent. Most of the members are Greek and either reside in Greece or are Greek Americans. The few of the members that are not Greek are philhellenes or friends of Greece. The official language of the association is Greek, which is spoken at the Greek table held every Wednesday at 6:00 in the Forbes College Cafe, and at the Kafeneio, an email list which is a discussion forum, not in the strict sense, but rather as a place where each person can say what they feel like. All of the formal presentations and guest lectures, as well as the formal email list, ellhnes, which consists of all members, are in English. The Association organizes two Greek Nights each year, with a live band from Astoria and traditional Greek food. In addition, we hold a traditional celebration of the Orthodox Easter, with lamb roasted on a spit on Easter Sunday, and put on a dance show for the International Festival and for Rythms, an international dance troupe. On Saturdays we hold a Greek dancing workshop in the dance studio in Dillon at 5:00pm. Starting last year, we began publishing Paralos a journal with academic as well as creative contents.
