Volos/Nea Anchialos Airport began its operation in 1991. It is located 26 km away from the city of Volos, and is easily accessible from the motorway E75. The airport, in the past, has served Volos-Athens route and charter flights from many European countries.
The completion of the new terminal, on a size of 9000 sq.m., which was completed in 2009, is expected to provide another boost to the development of the airport. Flights to Nuremberg, Berlin, Dusseldorf and Hamburg, are already run.
Apart from scheduled flights, several charter flights are served up today.
The new building of the terminal, has a ground floor, where are a waiting room and 10 ports of entry and exit and an upper floor, which houses a restaurant and shops. Surroundings are 24,000 sq.m., where there is a parking lot too.
The new building facilities, which were inaugurated on October 12, 2010 include a new terminal building of a 8924.14 sq.m. total area, fully equipped with electromechanical installations, a fire station building, of a 497 sq.m. total area and a 42.000 sq.m. surrounding area.
The new Terminal of Nea Anchialos National Airport is going to serve almost all the sports, which will be at the region, during the 2013 Mediterranean Games.
