The Hellenistic settlement
was the seat of the Thesprotian League (Koinon) and, for a short period, of the Epirotan League. It lies to the north of
Kalamas which, like the rest of the area was controlled by the settlement.
The first excavations of the site were carried out in 1985 and ever since systematic work has been continued by K. Preka-Alexandri.
Excavations have brought to light the following monuments:
• Building A,
a Hellenistic structure with an atrium, a corridor running along the sides, and chambers with mosaic floors.
3.000 clay sealings were discovered inside the building.
• Small temple.
• Building B, which was probably used as a mint.
• Building C.
• The stoa.
Other important monuments at the site are the fortification wall
of the settlement, the theatre, and private buildings.
