The museum was founded in 1991 and its construction now almost complete,
was based on a study of the A.N.K.O. of Kozane which had been approved by the
Direction of Museum Studies of the Ministry of Culture.
The museum contains collections of finds from Aiane,
the capital of ancient Elimeia,
one of the regions of Upper Macedonia, and finds from the satellite settlements
of the city.
The most important exhibits of the museum are: Head of
a Mycenaean figurine. Clay figurine
of a kore (young woman), dated to the second half of the 6th century
B.C. Gold lozenge-shaped
sheet, which covered the mouth of the deceased (epistomion). It is
decorated with a relief representation of lions. Dated to the second half of the
6th century B.C. Gold fibula
of the 6th century B.C. Clay stand
with matt-painted decoration. Bronze
statuette of a kore, the handle of a mirror. Marble
conical capital of a column. Marble statue of a lion, dated to ca. 500 B.C. Marble head of a kore (young woman). Marble head of a kouros (young man).
Every summer since 1990, educational programs are organized and every
September, starting from 1995, a conference takes place, titled "Archaeologists
talk about Aiane and Upper Macedonia".
