The Liechtenstein FA (LFV) was established in 1934 by the following clubs FC Schaan,
FC Balzers, FC Triesen and FC Vaduz. In 1954 the Club FC Mauren was added as additional
member, since 1963 the club is known as USV Eschen/Mauren. FC Ruggell joined the
LFV in 1958 and in 1972 the FC Triesenberg was affiliated as last member of the
Liechtenstein FA.
1974 was a milestone in the history of the Liechtenstein FA. In this year we joined
the FIFA (as 142nd member) and the UEFA (as 34th member). The first official international
match was played on 9th March 1982 in Balzers against our neighbours from Switzerland.
Surprisingly our team played very well and we lost only 0:1.
The Liechtenstein FA is member of the Liechtenstein Olympic Sports Federation
(LOSV) and of the Swiss Football Federation (SFV). Since 1933 the Liechtenstein
FA and the Swiss Football Federation agreed that all Liechtenstein football clubs
can take part at the Swiss football championships, as it does not make any sense
to play an own championship in Liechtenstein, with only seven clubs.
