ITAA was founded in November 1970, bringing together under one umbrella two previous organisations, namely the Alliance of Irish Travel Agents and the Irish Provincial Travel Agents. Today, the ITAA is an organisation consisting of 370 retail travel agents and 20 Tour Operators nationwide. It is estimated that in excess of 80% of all travel agents outlets in the Republic of Ireland are members of the ITAA.
All ITAA travel agents and tour operators are licensed and bonded with the Government (Commission for Aviation Regulation) in accordance with the provisions of the Transport (Tour Operators and Travel Agents) Act 1982 and the Package Holidays and Travel Trade Act 1995.
