At the eastern edge of Crete island is built a chapel dedicated to Agios Isidoros. According to the tradition, a monk from Agion Oros built that church, who reached that are after a long time wander to the stormy Aegean and Cretan sea. The speech paraphrase turned the name to Sideros, as it is today the name of the cape on which chapel is located.
In 1880 the French Company of Ottoman Lighthouses built the lighthouse. During their leaving from Crete the Germans ruined it and it was rebuilt in 1948. It consists by a stone round tower of 15 meters height and its focal plane is 45 meters. Beside there is a stone house. The closest town is η Sitia, in a distance of fifty km.
