At the east side of Andros island, at the southeast edge of Vitali bay, on the Gria cape is located the homonymous lighthouse. The stone lighthouse was built and operated for first time in 1914, by petroleum, characteristic a red flash every 2’ and luminescence of 14 nautical miles. Its tower has a height of 12 meters and its focal plane is 86 meters.
During the 2nd World War was out of order. It was re-operated in 1945, again by petroleum, within the frame of lighthouses network restructure. In 1984 oil machinery were replaced by electricity and from then it operated as automatic electric featuring one white flash every 20" and luminescense of 25 nautical miles.
The access is by a rough road starting from Agios Nikolaos monastery. The old visual machines and equipment are in the Kaireios library at Chora.
