  The historic settlement of Rodia lays on the steep slope overlooking Heraklion bay and is recently booming into a residential center of high quality dwellings. Rodia is 16km away from Heraklion and owes its name to the old church of Virgin Mary's Annunciation. The steep slopes compose landscapes of exquisite beauty especially on the coastline and at the foot of the Valley and the gorge that starts from the bay of Palaiokastro and ends at the NW of Rodia settlement.
