The STA.SY S.A. was established on June 17, 2011 (FEK 1454).
The new company includes the Athens Piraeus Electric Railway (I.S.A.P) , the Attiko Metro Operation Company (A.M.E.L) and TRAM . The merge of the 3 companies is designed for succeed the complement of the track public transport so that become the main choice of Athenian citizens and visitors of the city for their transfers.
According to the relevant notice published at the Newspaper of the Government the new company is responsible for operating the public transport in a stable orbit to ground and underground level (urban rail, tram, tram and other track-based transport) within the Attica region.
A.M.E.L. operates two Metro Lines, Line 2 or Red and Line 3 or Blue.
The line 2, Aghios Antonios - Aghios Dimitrios/Alexandros Panagoulis, is 11 km long and has 14 stations. It's under expansion, as new stations at the Peristeriand Elliniko are ment to operate in the next years.
The line 3, Egaleo - Doukissis Plakentias - Airport, lies in a 37 km long distance and has 20 stations. In fact, the line 3 reaches to Doukissis Plakentias station and then through Proastiakos Railway network, Metro trains reach up to Athens International Airport, by stations serving Mesogeia area in East Attica.
Athens Piraeus Electric Railway (I.S.A.P) serves the citizens of the greater Athens area for over 100 years. After Metro's operation it's marked as Line 1 or Green Line. Athens Piraeus Electric Railway trains, traversing the old Athens backbone, connect Piraeus, Greece's bigger port, to Kifissia through 26 km railway. It's 24 stations have recently been renovated and provide access to disabled persons.
TRAM S.A. operates tram in Athens, since July 2004.
The tram has 3 routes Syntagma - Sef (Aristotelis), Syntagma - Asklipiio Voulas (Thoukididis) and Sef - Asklipiio Voulas (Platonas). It has 48 stations total equipped with seats and overhead covers for the waiting areas, a visual and speaker type of information system, ticket issuance and validation machines, housing for the electronic equipment, announcement boards with informative material (i.e. maps), a clock, waste disposal containers, lighting and closed circuit tv. Operates daily from 05.30 a.m. to 01.00 a.m. and on Friday, Saturday from 05.30 a.m. to 2.30 a.m.
