From Agii Apostoli - which can be reached by public transport - and up to Kolymbari
there are the largest tourist centres of the county, Platanias,
Stalos, Agia
Marina, Maleme. To the
West we can see the blue gulf of Kastelli, the most western port of Crete,
which connects with Peloponessos
and Kythira.
The beautiful green villages that are to the east of Chania
with clean sands and clear waters have developed into modern resorts that attract
quite a lot of tourism Kalyves,
Almyrida, Plaka,
Georgioupolis. The western
beaches of Falassarna, Sfinari,
Elafonissi are areas of unique
natural beauty as well as the whole side of the county where in the blue waters
of the Libyan sea the mountains
Lefka Ori are mirrored, are
directed to the nature-loving tourism. Big and small hotels rented apartments
and rooms as well as camping sites on virgin beaches (Glyka Nera, Orthi Ammos)
are available to visitors while the communication among the villages Sfakia,
Loutro, Agia
Roumeli, Sougia, Paleochora
and the isle of Gavdos is succeeded
with boats. The area of Fragokastello,
to the southwest, with the villages in line at the bottom of the mountains, the
gorge of Kallikratis, the field with the great sunshine, the Venetian
castle (1371) and the myth of magic shadows (drossoulites) has some of the
nicest beaches of the Mediterranean.
