Owes its call to its shape, is a real gully, starting from the top of the mountain and ending in the middle of the Paradise slope. • Fully equipped first aid station. The medical coverage for visitors includes:
    • First aid services in case of an accident or a sudden illness.
    • In case of emergency, when the incident requires further investigation, on doctor’s belief, and if the patient is unable to travel with his own means, will be transferred by an ambulance to the nearest public hospital.
  • Parnassos Ski Center has 6 grooming machines (out of which one is new for rough slopes) and 3 assistants, which operate according to a daily schedule, in order to prepare the slopes. Usually the grooming machines operate after the closing of the lifts and the evacuating of the slopes. In some cases such as in a continuous snowfall, in a mechanical failure of lifts or in an emergency rescue, the snow formation machines could, by exception, move carefully in the slopes within operating hours.
  • Rescue service team, which is consisted by expert pisters, who they ensure, on a daily basis, that, the slopes are operated safely, the slopes’ circulation regulations are observed and generally any rescue calls anywhere at the ski centre are attended to. The pisters check only the ski runs that are open, whereas the Sahara and the Peripheral runs (when these are open) are patrolled every one-hour. The last check of the ski slopes takes place after lifts closure. The rescue team is responsible for the transportation of injured skiers, but it is also trained and equipped to perform rescue operations regarding avalanches, cliff falls, disorientation and release from airlifts.
  • Establishment of warning signs, which prevent the access to locations that there is the danger of an avalanche. Avalanches forms only in parts outside the controlled ski runs, mainly on the steep northern slopes over the Peripheral run going to Fterolakka. Special signs prohibiting entry have been placed at these locations, while, when there is maximum danger, depending on the conditions, appropriate action is taken (such as blocking off of the dangerous areas or inducing an artificial release of the snow) in order to minimize the hazard. Furthermore, snow profiles are conducted regularly and reports on the degree of avalanche danger are provided according to the international scale E.I. Davos, which should be taken seriously into consideration by everyone. In order to locate avalanche victims, are used tracking devices (electronic transceivers - avalanche beacons) at 457KHz. Please note that the off-slope skiing is done solely under your own responsibility.
  • Parking lot.

Accessibility/Road network

A decision has been taken for the repair of the road network that leads to Parnassos Ski Center on the spots where there is a problem and new information boards will be installed. Parnassos Ski Center possesses three UNOMOC and two ROLBA snowploughs for the clearance of the roads that link the municipalities and the villages of the surrounding areas to the ski center.

Operation Period

Fterolakka facilities operate from December till April. The operating hours are:
  • Weekdays: from 9:00 to 16:00 (last lift for uploading skiers).
  • Weekends & Holidays: from 8:00 to 16:00 (last lift for uploading skiers).
  • Night ski from 17:00 to 20:00 (depending on weather).
  • Returning of RFID cards, with a fee of 3 euro, could be till 16:30 at the Parnassos Ski Center cash desk.
  • After the March 1st the operating hours could be different, depending on the temperature.

Useful notes

Parnassos Ski Center construction started in 1975 and was completed in 1976, when Fterolakka facilities began operating. In 1981 the construction of Kellaria facilities were also completed, whereas in 1987-1988, the Ermis lift, which links Fterolakka to Kellaria, began its operation.
Parnassos mountain is a leading ski center preferred by Athenians - since it is only 180 km away from the city of Athens. At the same time, its infrastructure allows a comfortable service for a very high number of skiers but also visitors too.
The replacement of the electronic boards in aerial lifts No 6, No 7 and in Aiolos lift reassures the highest degree of security for the skiers, as the new PLC technology guarantees a lift's inspection in more spots than before and continuously.
An on-line wind counting and recording system has been obtained and installed. This is a system that is recording at every moment the wind's speed via two counting stations and transferring the data on-line, so both the skiers and the control station of the ski center be informed for dangerous weather conditions.

Facilities/services in the surrounding area

Parnassos Ski Center has been created for the development of the neighbouring communities and municipalities; that is why it does not supply any accommodation. The surrounding areas, villages or municipalities, which are around 20 km away from the ski center can service the visitors. To the surroundings, it’s worth to visit:
  • The Archeological Site of Delphi. At the foot of Parnassos mountain, within landscape, formed between the two giant rocks of Phaedriades, is the Panhellenic sanctuary of Delphi and the most famous oracle of ancient Greece. There you can visit the Temple of Apollo, the place where located the Pythia’s oracle, the theatre of the sanctuary and also visit the Archaeological Museum of Delphi, which is full of regional archaeological finds.
  • The picturesque town of Arachova, with stone houses, narrow streets, which in our days offers numerous options of accommodation, dinning & entertainment.
  • Consisting villages of the Municipality of Parnassos, Polydrossos, Lilea and Eptalofos, which mostly are retained the traditional architecture and you can find accommodation services & entertainment.

  • The Monastery of Osios Loukas, the most important Byzantine monument (11th century a. C.), consisting of the church of Virgin Mary, the Katholiko temple, the cells and the rest of buildings, is truly a remarkable place to visit. It’s located 3 km far away from Stiri village and about 40 km from Parnassos Ski Center.

Kellaria facilities operate from December till April.

C.), consisting of the church of Virgin Mary, the Katholiko temple, the cells and the rest of buildings, is truly a remarkable place to visit. It’s located 3 km far away from Stiri village and about 40 km from Parnassos Ski Center.

In the nearby forest, which is of high scientific and educational value, there are some of the rarest species of Greek flora & fauna. The forest is located in the heart of Serres controlled hunting area and considered as a core saving, by constant prohibition of hunting. EOK directive 79/409 "on the conservation of wild birds", protects ten birds’ species, of total recorded in the forest. Equally important is the flora of the region. The part of the forest called "sfagnonas" is protected by the Ministry of Rural Development and Food and was declared a natural monument restored. Finally, researches about forest’s situation and growth, on the after-ice age period, are taking place too.

Useful notes

The Vigla Pissoderi Ski Center is one of the oldest in Greece, as its first sliding lift was established in 1967. It is also one of the modern and biggest ski centers with many slopes & lifts. Tottis family, who owns & operates also the Tottis Chalet, on the base of it, manages it.
The brand new aerial lift of 2 km in length, whose starting point is at the Pissoderi village and peak point at the ski center’s top, is the longest one in Balkans. That’s a unique fact for Greece, to exist a connecting lift between a village and the ski center.
Ski Center’s parking is quite big and recently has been expanded and planked with asphalt. New place for trailers was also created.
The main slope is lightened and is open for night ski from 21:00 to 01:00, every weekend and holidays.

Operation period

The N.S.C. of Vassilitsa operates from early December to March, from Monday to Sunday 9 a.m to 4 p.m. and in weekends from 9 a.m to 4 p.m.

Useful notes

The N.S.C. of Vassilitsa is consisted of two parts: the top and bottom. The top is the oldest one, with four lifts, a baby and various other facilities. The lower one, which operated for first time in 1994, has the longest slopes and brand new lifts.
The unchanged through the time nature of Pindos in conjunction with the creatures who lived there, as the mammoth discovered in the district, inspired the trade of N.S.C. of Vassilitsa, "a skier on the mammoth tusks".
The natural beauty of Pindos urged in 1975 a group of romantic people, to create the Ski Alpine Club of Grevena to implement an utopia: Ski Center in Vassilitsa. They finally managed it by pressing the state to finance the first sliding lift at the Vasilitsa - Gomara plateau, 1060 m in length, at an altitude of 1788 - 2060 m. This lift carries 800 skiers per hour and operates until our days. Its installation and construction is a pattern, because the slope has only a little of intervention and the quantity and quality of snow is excellent. The next year the idea of Grevena prefecture tourism development, with focal point the Vasilitsa ski center, is expanding, with more fans speak flattering for Vassilitsa’s abilities to utilize, ignoring the inconvenience in access (dirt road, lift with amateurs operators, inaccessible slopes, big snowfall exceeding 2 m, minimum building facilities).
In 1991 the Ski Alpine Club of Grevena grant to the General Secretariat of Sports the created infrastructure i.e. lift, snowplough and chalet, in order to set up a Legal Entity of Public Law, managing by a seven member committee, with 2 year service and official name National Ski Center of Vassilitsa.
In 1993, due to their incorporation on 1st Community Support Framework, T.E.D.K. installed to the Liosoro Galani site two aerial lifts, a triple seat, 991,40 m in length, at an altitude of 1642,5 - 1825,26 m, with a capacity of 1800 skiers per hour, a double seat, 845,60 m in length, at an altitude of 1797 - 2110 m, with a capacity of 1800 skiers per hour, and a sliding one for beginners, 300 m in length.
The efforts of the Prefectural Administration of Grevena were continued. In 1998 the research for the environmental conditions of the Ski Center was approved and 460,238 acres granted by the Ministry of Agriculture to the General Secretariat of Sports, an achievement that solves the problems of country planning and projects elaboration for construction of necessary infrastructure as for buildings too, relying on the protection of this amazing environment, avoiding the arbitrary and uncontrolled construction.
In 2000, incorporating in the 2nd Community Support Framework, constructed by the Prefectural Administration of Grevena two more sliding lifts and one for beginners to Baldouma site. Those lifts are, the first named Migdanis, 800 m in length, at an altitude of 1810 - 2034 m and the second named Tymfea, 980 m in length, at an altitude of 1774 - 2040 m, providing new perspectives to the ski resort, by increasing its capacity and classifying it among the most popular in Northern Greece. All lifts serve slopes, of various difficulties and slip, of 22km total length, which haven’t been under outside interference, have retained their natural beauty and consist the major advantage of Vassilitsa.
The N.S.C. of Vassilitsa in our days operates with full authorization of electromechanical and buildings, and that fact make it the first in Greece, with approval of environmental conditions and operating license.
A big problem also, this of its operation, is at the final stage with passage of N.3057/24.9.2002  “amendment and supplement of N.2725/99 regulation of Ministry of Culture and other provisions”, which contains the foundation of an organization responsible for the management and operation of N.S.C. of Vassilitsa. So the lasting problems of temporary staff, which tirelessly offer services more than a decade, will be solved. Also, its incorporation in a program of funding the construction of Chalet and parking at the base of the triple-seat chair, of a 3.500.000 € total cost, will enhance the customers’ quality service.
