Kerkini lake & wetland have been created by a dam of Strymonas river in 1932; a bigger dam operated in 1982

Kerkini lake can be visited either from the northern communities of Mandraki, Kerkini, or from the southern and eastern communities of Limnochori, Megalochori, Chrysochorafa and Lithotopos

Lake Kerkini, great white egret (Egretta alba), a large, white-winged brid related to the heron, considerable numbers winter in Greece
